19 Sep New in Studio B: Zeiss Compact Prime CP.3 Lenses
Lenses, New Rentals | RentalsCheck out the newest addition to our lens inventory, the Zeiss CP.3 Compact Primes. This brand new line of lenses improves on the extremely popular CP.2 lightweight cinema primes. The CP.3’s feature a new mechanical design, anti-reflection coating, interchangeable lens mounts, full-frame sensor coverage, and offer the clean and crisp look that Zeiss is known for.
Our set comes with five lenses: 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. The latter four open up to a T2.1 while the 18mm is a T2.9. Renters have the option of either a PL or EF mount, and the lenses can be rented out individually or as a full set. 27 Jul Studio B Live-Streams Greenpeace Training Seminar
Crew Services, Tricaster | RentalsLast month we shot and live-streamed a training seminar for Greenpeace as part of their #SummerOfResistance program. Shot on Canon C300s, we cut the video and added graphics and commercials on the Tricaster 460, recording and streaming to thousands of viewers on Facebook Live. Led by Greenpeace organizers, the video provides resources and training for creative, non-violent action. Overall it was a big success, reaching over 200,000 people on Facebook and inspiring action around the country.
Live-stream shoots need to be meticulously planned and executed since there’s only one shot at delivering a polished product. With dozens of successful live-streams under our belts here at Studio B, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and guarantee peace of mind that our experienced crews will deliver high quality production value for any budget. Our client Dan from Greenpeace left us a great review: “As for the pieces I was involved with – working with you was very easy, even on a tight timeline things ran smoothly and you made yourselves available to lend your personal thoughts and opinions to our project. We really appreciated this. We also appreciated how patient and straight forward the coordination process was and your willingness to answer our questions in a timely manner. I also heard rave reviews from staff who worked directly with you and the rest of the team on Sunday.”
14 Jun The Benefits of Live-Streaming
Crew Services, Tricaster | Rentals“The truth is, there has never been a better time to embrace live streaming. Audiences are watching more streamed content than ever. Plus, the costs are within reach of even modest budgets.”
We’re big proponents of live-streaming. Whether it’s a business conference, awards ceremony, sporting event, concert, or comedy show, there’s a huge value in delivering the video content directly to your viewers in real-time over the web. Newtek, the company that makes the Tricaster system that we use for most of our webcasts, put together a great short ebook that covers the benefits of live-streaming and seven lessons for those looking to get more out of their content using live-streaming. While the ebook is targeted towards video professionals, it’s got several great lessons for all businesses and content producers.
For example, lesson #3 is about driving greater engagement with social media. Here’s a brief excerpt:
“In an age of ever-increasing social media engagement, it’s crazy not to take advantage. Failing to join in means you won’t be able to take part in conversations about your programs. As a result, you’ll always be at least one step removed from the active, engaged audience that every sponsor and rights owner values.”
In our experience filming and streaming dozens of events each year, we can vouch for the high value of audience engagement and the benefits of live-streams. Here’s the link to the full ebook: Live Streaming: How to Take Your Productions Into Real Time, Big Time

09 Feb New in Studio B: Westcott Flex Lights
Lighting | Studio B TeamNew in rentals are the Westcott Flex Lights. Lightweight and powerful, these fixtures have the “flexibility” to light all kinds of scenes. Each light is constructed of an LED array on a soft panel that can either attach to a square frame for support or stand alone in unique lighting situations.
All of the Westcott Flex Lights are impressively bright and generate significantly less heat than fresnel or HMI lighting sources. And with a super low weight and profile, the panels easily mount anywhere — handy in very tight setups.
The Westcott Flex Light Travel Kit includes everything you need to set up two 1×1’ soft light sources. With dimming options, battery power and adjustable color temperature, this kit is perfect for setting up quick interviews or adding light to “run and gun” productions. Studio B also offers a 2×2’ daylight balanced Flex Light for situations that require higher output.
The lighting systems come with frames, diffusion, dimmers and adjustable ball joints compatible with baby pin mounts.

Check out this video that covers guidelines for where to plug in different lights (along with the basics of house circuitry), featuring local gaffer and Studio B favorite Alan Steinheimer. 06 Jan Top Ten Most Rented Items of 2016
Year in Review | RentalsWe’re as happy as everyone else that 2016 is finally over, but we’re also excited to look back and take stock of what was yet another successful year in rentals. We ran the numbers and pulled our top ten most rented items of the year, judging by quantity of rentals in the context of respective equipment categories.
One note: we left out grip equipment here, because c-stands, sandbags, stingers and the like never go out of style, (and would dominate the list). So besides that, and in no particular order, here are the top ten most rented items of 2016:
12 Dec Studio B in Virtual Reality
Uncategorized | RentalsStudio B is in the VR game these days, shooting and stitching 360-degree video for the web, mobile, or VR headsets like the Oculus Rift. Check out our non-interactive reel above to see some samples of 360° videos we shot recently.
We’re especially excited about the possibilities that Virtual Reality presents and have been experimenting extensively with 360-degree rigs and VR storytelling. While not the right medium for every story, when your goal is to drop the audience into an immersive experience and take them to places that they would otherwise not have access, we think there’s nothing quite like VR. It’s truly an amazing tool.
We are offering 360° camera rentals as well as services such as concepting, shooting, stitching, and editing VR footage. To read about the services we offer and possible video applications for 360, check out this page here. To rent our GoPro Omni 360° camera rig, go to this page here or give us a call!
